Continuous Root Tacking Machines

An optimum tacking lay requires an optimum preparation of the open seam pipes. Therefore, we have developed the Graebener® continuous root tacking machine for the production of LSAW pipes. This machine ensures an optimum tacking process and provides an operator-friendly machine control. Benefit from our individual solutions for pipe diameters up to 64" (1,625 mm).

OverviewConcept

During the production of large LSAW pipes a gap remains between the longitudinal edges of the bent plate. Using your Graebener® continuous root tacking machine you can close this gap accurately by pushing together the longitudinal edges. This way, the tacking lay can be optimally introduced to the open seam pipe in a subsequent process.

Graebener® continuous root tacking machines are ideally suited for pipe diameters up to 64" (1,625 mm) at a pipe length of up to 13.5 meters. The pipe is passed through the machine in a continuous process being guiding by pressure rolls in all four directions. The top rolls are located in a patented roller cage and can be adjusted like the lateral rolls for a precise processing of the open seam pipe. During the entire process, the welding gap is scanned by means of a 2D laser scanner ensuring a constant tacking lay and thus the optimum basis for the subsequent submerged arc welding processes.

Our solutions are ideally suited for a wide range of pipe dimensions.

Pipe length:

up to 13.5 m

External pipe diameter:

up to 64" (1,625 mm)

Wall thickness:

up to 75 mm

Graebener® continuous root tacking machines are designed for the integration into a pipe production line. The machine concept is based on the vast experience gained during the operation of our own Graebener® pipe mill up until the 1990ies.

During the engineering of the Graebener® continuous root tacking machine, we place special importance on ensuring an easy access to the welding unit and a simple and reliable operation of the machine.
The slewable operating panel is located at the outfeed side of the machine. From there, the operator can manually adjust all pressure rolls for the compensation of the plate edge offset – vertically and horizontally. For a better monitoring of the seam center, the machine is also equipped with a camera at the upper rolls. This way, the operator can manually adjust the lateral torch position.

The design of the Graebener® continuous root tacking machine is very robust and durable. The machine frame consists of an upper and lower traverse in a rigid welded plate construction. The upper and lower traverse are connected to each other by four pre-stressed columns. This way an optimum force distribution in your continuous root tacking machine can be achieved.
